Some Upcoming Articles

You may have been fooled into believing I haven’t had to the time to write anything,  given the great number of posts lately (read: zero). Luckily that’s not the case. In fact, I’ve been working on several things and figured I’d give you a heads up on what’s about to come in the near future.

Lately, I’ve taken a great interest in tiling window managers and went looking for the ideal one. No surrogates like Poor Man’s Tiling Window Manager, but the real deal: Awesome, XMonad, dwm, wmii… I  tryed most of them and finally went for XMonad. I’ll “enlighten” you later on with my valid and some not so valid reasonings.

I finally took the time to document my experiences and hacks of Arch Linux on my Sony Vaio SZ6. It’s pretty much finished and goes, among other things, about the installation and configuration process in depth. Many consider Sony laptops a bad choice to install linux on. I can prove otherwise.

I spend a small, but significant amount of time thinkering with video. It goes from playback to encoding to desktop environment integration. I’d love to share the things I’ve learned along the way with you: how to install a svn version of mplayer and picking the correct compile options, find out what good encoding settings are for your movies,  scripts I created to easen the encoding process, a way to acquire a good desktop integration of mplayer in gnome, etc…

I also figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to, like so many, share my linux config files  so others can benefit from it (or me if I somehow lossed them). I set up a git repository that should do the trick. Now it’s still a matter of commiting them to the repo.

There are probably some thing I forgot to mention but these are the main headlines of the past days.
